SOUTHERN
ONTARIO SOCIETY FOR BIOENERGETIC ANALYSIS The Southern Ontario Society for Bioenergetic Analysis was formed in 1993, to encourage and promote Bioenergetic Analysis in southern Ontario. Societies already existed in Toronto, Michigan and western New York State. There was growing interest in having a training program in this area. SOSBA has evolved with training as a core value. Using the Bioenergetic concepts, our mission is to be a grounded vibrant and compassionate organization; an organic organization that is continually evolving to meet the needs of our members. We are incorporated in the province of Ontario as non-profit organization and certified as a private educational institution by Human Resource & Development Canada. This means that tuition fees are tax deductible. Structure There are 2 Co-directors, Secretary and Treasurer who oversee the functioning of the society. Early on, SOSBA created a Training Committee, to plan, coordinate and support the different training needs of our members. The committee is made up of 2 CBT (Certified Bioenergetic Therapist) members, and 2 members from the training group. Currently, there are 6 positions, 2CBT’s, 2 from the previous training group, and 2 positions from the current training group. The Great Lakes Conference (GLC) SOSBA has been active in developing The Great Lakes Conference (GLC) which is run every second year, alternating with IIBA’s International Conference. The next GLC will be in 2006. The GLC was created as a forum…
Ethics Because Bioenergetic Analysis touches the client so deeply, and because the therapeutic relationship is such an important component in the healing process, Ethics is an important issue for therapists. We have an Ethics Committee, to help us keep aware of the standards and behaviour that promote healing, openness and continuous professional growth. SOSBA has a Code of Ethics, to which all members adhere. We are also accountable to the IIBA Code of Ethics. And in addition, we adhere to the Code of Ethics of which ever profession each member belongs to. Membership Membership in SOSBA is required in the second year of training, and trainees are encouraged to become members earlier. Through participation, we can better meet the needs of people interested in and excited by Bioenergetic Analysis. Benefits of Membership

“To be an integrated individual, [you] must be identified with [your] body and with [your] word... To achieve this integration, one must start with being the body - You are your body... One must end with being the word - You are your word. But the word must come from the heart.” Alexander Lowen, Founder of Bioenergetic Analysis
